Staff

Dave Prival has 16 years of experience designing, leading, and conducting biological fieldwork involving reptiles, amphibians, birds, small mammals, and plants.  He is considered the leading expert on the Arizona state-protected Twin-spotted rattlesnake.  Past projects Dave has designed and led include:

  • Inventories of reptiles and amphibians in ten National Parks in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas
  • Ecological research, distribution surveys, and monitoring of montane rattlesnake species in southeastern Arizona
  • Estimation of population sizes of Desert tortoises and lizards using distance sampling
  • Native plant surveys throughout southern and central Arizona
  • Surveying and monitoring of federally protected bird species
  • Surveys for endangered plant species
  • Monitoring of freshwater turtle populations

In addition, Dave has extensive field experience in Latin America, including monitoring hummingbird populations in Mexico, monitoring bat populations in Venezuela, and conducting studies of reptiles and amphibians throughout Mexico and Central and South America. 

Dave earned an M.S. in Wildlife Science from the University of Arizona and a B.A. in Earth and Environmental Science from Wesleyan University.

Bruce Weise has over ten years experience leading and conducting biological fieldwork involving reptiles, amphibians, birds, small mammals, and plants across the Southwest. He has extensive experience working with Desert tortoises in both the Sonoran and Mojave deserts including radio telemetry, health assessments, surveying, and biological sample collection. He currently serves as a Designated Biologist at the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Station (ISEGS) near Nipton, CA.

Additional experience includes:

  • Mt. Graham red squirrel telemetry
  • Sonoran mud turtle surveys and telemetry
  • Desert box turtle surveys and processing
  • Leopard frog surveys
  • Small mammal trapping
  • Conducting herpetological inventories
  • Plant surveys
  • Burrowing owl surveys

Bruce earned a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona.
